Memorial Day… We Owe Our Armed Forces For OUR Very Way Of Life.

by admin | May 24th, 2009

I finished reading the book entitled 1776 a few days ago. For those that have not yet read it I strongly encourage you to do so.

The author, David McCullough, chronicled the events of one of the most important years in the History of these United States of America. Mr. McCullough achieved what most aspiring writers, yours truly included, can only hope to achieve. Mr. McCullough’s writings actually found a permanent home deep within my soul. More importantly the meaning of his words and what those words represent burned ever deeply into my psyche.

I suppose I can also thank the current administration for the intensity in which I received the authors interpretation of the amazing events that took place in the year 1776. I am truly concerned with the present direction we currently find ourselves as a Nation.

As we all know 1776 was the official year we declared our independence from what could truly be called the “Big Government” of the day. WE now find ourselves walking and sometimes running into the same big government control only this time the attack is coming from within.

As I read 1776 I was for some reason drawn to pay particular attention to the incredible hardships those fighters-of-independence endured. The farmers, the tinker-ers, the wain-rights, the cobble-rights, the black-smiths, and and all the other untold craftsmen of the day left their livelihood, left their families and left the relative security of their homes to fight for nothing more than what was the beginning that lead directly to the lives we lead today. The Patriots of our early years literally and unknowingly defined what it means to be an American Patriot.

Since the fateful year of 1776 we have fought eleven “official” wars and conflicts as a nation plus numerous other military offensives, all to protect our freedom and way of life. While the ‘legality” and “importance” of those wars and conflicts can be disputed by some, the sacrifices our armed forces gave to protect our freedom during those wars certainly cannot and should not be questioned or diminished.

I intend to write a lot more on this subject in the coming months. At this time I wish only to leave you with two thoughts…

1 – Does ANYONE, including our government, have the right to change the core elements upon which our country was founded? The elements I refer to, of course, are outlined in our Declaration of Independence AND The Constitution of the United States of America.

2 – Does ANYONE have the right to question or diminish the sacrifices the amazing men and women of the armed forces of the United States of America so bravely gave to you and to I? Yes, it was our military and their sacrifices we need to thank for giving us our very way of life.

I personally consider attacks on our country, from any front, as attacks on the memories of all those who so bravely fought to save our very way of life as it was defined by our founding fathers. I for one take offense to anyone who redefines freedom to suit their own end.

Of the People, For the People, and By the People is just that. THAT is what our forefathers and all our predecessors so bravely fought for.

We were not founded nor will I personally accept “FOR the Government” or “FOR the Party.” These terms are nothing less than blasphemy directed at our brave American predecessors.

I for one am not willing to say all our Forefathers and Mothers who fought to save our very way of life fought and/or died for naught.

One Response to “Memorial Day… We Owe Our Armed Forces For OUR Very Way Of Life.”

  1. Thanks for your kind words Foosis – it feels great to know that you have inspired someone. Of course, the truth is that we are inspired by the brave men and women who have and still do protect this country. I tried to make a video that included everyone because so many slip through the cracks. I can only hope that what we do via our blogs, radio, the Alliance, tea parties, etc. does justice to the fight our soldiers through the years have fought.

Incidentally, for those who don’t know, the man and woman in the middle of the video are my own grandparents who served this country during World War II.
