I believe in the truth of simple basics upon which all other truths are realized. I believe unless you have basics to fall on when life gets tough you are destined to collapse. At the very least you are destined to confused wanderings in both your thoughts and your actions. As I advance in years my understanding of this fact becomes more and more clear. Had I understood this to the depth I do today I no doubt would have made fewer mistakes in life. Had I understood this to a greater depth at a younger age I suspect my influence over others through the years perhaps would have been a little more positive. I also suspect this realized quagmire is but another realization of life we all must face.
I wish to set the basics for this essay:
I believe in God. I believe in what God wrote; I believe the undeniable truth in his words. I believe in The United States of America. I believe THE God had a hand in founding the United States of America. I believe he inspired OUR Declaration of Independence. I believe God had his hand in our Sacred Constitution. I do not apologize for this. I will not debate this. If you are not already here with me on this there is nothing I can do.
As with all writings the author must first identify his audience. As with all writings the author must then make certain assumptions. One basic understanding an author must realize is the only folks who will consider his ramblings are those folks beginning from roughly the same mental and spiritual foundation as he or she. If you are of the belief America is evil and God has no business in this discussion I suspect it would be best if you close your mind the rest of the way and reopen the Marvel comic book in which you so fervently wish to place your personal idea of faith. I say this because this discussion for you will serve no purpose and I wish to not waste your time. Or mine. I have discussed the preceding subjects for years and to be honest… I’m tired. You either realize these truths or not. There is nothing more I can, or wish, to do.
Now back to the issue at hand:
I believe God had a hand and inspired our founding and our Constitution but he most assuredly did not drive the bus to the exclusion of we passengers, the People of the United States of America. When We the People were inspired to found this great country God then left the steering details to us as he watched to see how we would handle HIS project just as he continues to do today. As is consistent with everything else God does he built a serious sense of accountability and personal choice into the foundational framework of this most important project. Let us face facts here folks. It is the lower case we the people of the United States of America that have made his project appear less than righteous over the years. The list of our poor choices include slavery, poor treatment of Native Americans, our drive to generate cash even if it undermines human rights in the process, the need to kill babies in the womb, and spending money we don’t have like a bunch of drunken sailors. The list is vast indeed.
Is the Constitution of the United States at fault for this? Is God? Is America and that for which it stands at fault for this? I again submit they are not. I submit the reasons we have generated these atrocities are because we have NOT followed the very laws of our land by which we were founded. Because this country is made up of people, fallible people, we have performed atrocities because they suited “our” individual needs of the moment. Long term consequences were not adequately considered. In each of these atrocious cases we strayed from the base from which we should tread, The Constitution of the United States of America. When, as in the case of slavery, it is realized by the populous a base inconsistency is written into our Constitution, there is a format to correct it. This format is called a Constitutional amendment. The abolishment of slavery, our thirteenth and possibly most important amendment, has been just one of the amendments implemented to fix errors in the founding document. The process worked in the case of slavery even thought it was much too slow in implementation by reasonable accounts.
To date there have been twenty seven such amendments. Many say the need for amendments prove the fallibility of our Constitution. I submit to you the strength of our Constitution is reflected and proven by the amendments. The Constitution of the United States of America is not void or outdated because of the span of time since its writing or for any other reason. Our Constitution is valid and certainly timely as has been proven by the trials it has been subjected to throughout our history.
God inspired the idea of our founding as well as the documents by which the rules of our possible success were outlined. Man has from time to time perverted those very ideals. Each perversion was based on a selfish motivator of the day and on personal and/or political reasons. God gave us the freedom to choose right from wrong and the right to make decisions. With that premise in mind he granted us the right to fail as well. I find myself asking if we will ultimately allow ourselves to fail America… and God.
We now find ourselves in the most perilous time since our founding. We are being attacked in many cases by “legal” citizens of these United States who in fact are not Americans at all as has been intellectually defined throughout our history. If an individual does not believe in liberty and all it implies; if an individual believes in promoting a Government strong enough to stifle our Constitution and therefore our Liberty… They are not members of what we call the true American family. They are usurpers to be held back by legal enforcement of our laws that already guarantee them no foothold.
The base values of the Constitution of the United States of America are the base principals upon which we should return and continue to build our nation. The deviation from those base principals is the singular reason we find ourselves in the peril we find ourselves today.
Is this the opinion of this author? Obviously it is. I strongly suspect however I am in great company. God himself inspired our founding and the base rules by which we are destined to succeed IF we choose to adhere to them. The likes of John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, John Hancock, George Washington and so many others of their day obviously felt the same and I truly believe they would vehemently fight those that oppose us just as they did in their own day. This fight today is the same fight. The enemy is the same except they now often reside on our soil. While they may share legal kinship and status, they also falsely call themselves members of the true American family.
Do these present day usurpers of freedom on the left have the right to their twisted speech? Most assuredly they do. This is still America in the true sense of the word. The freedom of speech is one of the base freedoms to which I refer. These same enemies of freedom, through the stance they choose to take however, also have the right to be defeated by one of the most amazing and righteous documents written since the beginning of time… The Constitution of the United States of America.
