(We have Given You,) “A Republic Ma’am, If You Can Keep it.” … Benjamin Franklin.

Any life begins with a single cell. If the single cell did not exist there could be no progression of life… YOU are a single cell in the womb of America.

It appears we are witnessing the rebirth, THE true rebirth of America. Perhaps what I see and feel is no more than gestation in the womb but one thing is for sure… I feel her kicking in the belly of We the People. Our battle for life has begun anew.

Whether folks wish to admit it or not it was the individual human soul in America that has propelled us to the greatness we have achieved as a nation. (As a side note I will leave the greater power involved out of this essay. Such an omission in no way limits the effect or necessity of the “secret” ingredient but rather the absolute need for it lest we savor a dish without substance.)

If you are an American citizen it is YOU to whom I speak.

On the one hand there is something inherent and understandable in the heart of a true American that does not want to believe the elected officials of our great nation would have anything but the best interests of America foremost in their thoughts and actions. We The People however, by the very nature of our government founded over two hundred years ago, are assigned the task of being the watchers of those we elect to serve US. The basis of a true and free America is the citizens understanding he or she live their lives as an individual who does not bow to our government. Our government works for you Joe, and you Sue, and for you John, Alex and Walter. I repeat… YOUR government works for YOU. You should never stand in awe of those elected to serve you. Those we elect should stand in awe of each of us as Americans. THAT is the proper order of things in America. It is your individual voice that makes the difference. It is you as an individual free standing American that has the power.

We individuals cannot sit on our laurels regardless of our means or stature if we expect our power to be realized by those attempting to destroy our very way of life. We need to re-educate ourselves. We then need to educate others that we do in fact have this power inherent in each American.

With this individual American power comes a grave responsibility. Our responsibility is built upon the backs of those who fought to preserve our very way of life. The responsibility is built upon those serving today. Our responsibility is solidified to diamonds by those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for us and the generations to follow. My responsibility and yours is to watch with a very reasonable and just discernment to seek truth and not settle for shiny things thrown in our path. We must forever be vigilant of those shiny things blinding us from the ultimate goal of freedom in this life. I personally will bow to no one here on earth. I personally vow to respect no one because I am told to.

To continue to grow as a nation we must act as individuals. As we grow we must not only live within the boundaries of freedom but we must practice it by exercising our rights.

What can YOU do?

Perhaps you can write. Writing is no more and no less than speaking on paper. At the very least writing helps sort thoughts into an understandable order. Share your written thoughts if you feel the need. If your attempts at conveying patriotism touch one person to action YOU have succeeded.

You could voice your approval or disapproval of your local, state and/or federal representative(s) in the form of a letter. It is said a politician views every voice of their constituency as a voice of three hundred. This is because it is only one out of three hundred Americans who actually have gumption enough to speak up. Your local officials do understand your one voice represents three hundred votes… Your individual voice is powerful indeed.

Perhaps you feel you can get in front of a crowd and speak to educate others, perhaps not. You could however support those willing to do so and join the crowd of listeners at your local tea party. Perhaps you could carry a sign printed with your personal hot button slogan for America but it would not be necessary. Trust me when I say you would be welcome.

If your means allow it you could donate to a worthy candidate.

Perhaps your network of friends is vast. Perhaps you could plant new seeds of freedom one voter at a time.
Perhaps you are overwhelmed because you just consider yourself “one.” Perhaps you are of the belief you can do nothing on your own. You could observe the next tea party in your town or community to see if a friend or potential friend is in attendance.

Perhaps you have a particular talent you could utilize to energize others.

The list above is but a starting point. Your actual path is your decision. It is amazing however what a little “can,” can do when it replaces “cannot.” (I wrote a little piece entitled “can.” You can find it here on my blog.)

Perhaps you feel you are too young to make a difference or perhaps you feel you are too old. The reasons to not act are endless. The just reasons to act are few but overshadow all the nay. I consider the main reason to act to preserve our very way of life is our young and all those we will leave behind. I am now fifty-seven years old. I have been given the gift of being nurtured in such a way to help me understand many things. I have been given the very real gift to understand I do not know all. I was given the gift to understand it is I who must strive to learn. I pray I continue to receive the gift of learning until the day I leave this earth and beyond. I wish to leave the same gift to not only my descendants but yours as well. For that I am willing to voice decent when I see us on a downward spiral.

I thoroughly believe we must get back to basics. Without a good base or foundation the finished product is always but a shell. We can afford no more mistakes of the magnitude we find ourselves today.

If you are overwhelmed with the feeling of smallness as an individual keep in mind everything utilizes “one” as a base. A building is but a single brick stacked in a row over, and over and over.
A beach is built of countless individual grains of sand.
The ocean is but countless individual droplets of water.

YOU are but one cell in the womb of America. You are America but YOU must act. No one can do it in your stead.
